A week or two ago I recorded a video diary entry. It was inspired by the BBC’s Imagine series, the one with Ian Rankin where he documents a year in his writing life. I just thought I’d quite like to be able to look back in a year and see my creative progress, and that maybe I should give it a whirl and see how it feels.
Also, I secretly hope that doing this thing will cause Mr Rankin’s writerly superpowers to seep into me like some kind of cyber-osmosis, that I will be motivated enough by the thought of the diary to keep going when I don’t want to.
Because I haven’t wanted to much for a while.
The first entry was filmed a week or so ago. It was mostly me all bleary-eyed (I was trying to work at 2am) staring at the webcam saying ‘um’ but the idea didn’t go away.
So this morning I had a slice of red velvet cake for breakfast, because that’s how we roll around here when there are no bananas left, and had a go at something a little more coherent.
It turns out that having a video diary – actually I called it my video log in the first take and felt oddly like a Star Trek throwback – is kind of fun. Anyone else want to play?
